Red Dinghy – Mudeford Quay
This Red Dinghy was moored close to the walkway at Mudeford Quay. It was early January so quite unusual for any boats to be on the water.
The Red, Blue and Green colours worked well here to give some impact and I used an ND8 filter which also helped with the contrast of the colours.

Red Arrows at Goodwood

I took this photo at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. So I’ve had it a while but it suddenly caught my eye as I was browsing my picture library.
The Red Arrows are great to watch and have been photographed millions and millions of times and some great images captured. This may not be my best Red Arrow photograph but something about the smoke and the air burst made me want to share it tonight.

St Paul’s Cathedral – iPhoneography
I took this photo from my favourite location for shooting St Pauls. The mirrored surfaces of the building are perfectly placed and on this day the clouds were helping me too.
This shot came from my iPhone 4, one day I must take my DSLR along to this location.
Golden Brown….
It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining on her blonde hair, the tan was natural as was her smile.
I took this photograph in Rome, near to the Trevi Fountain.
By using a 300mm Focal Length on an APS sensor I was able to obtain sharp focus on the subject whilst isolating her from the background.

Improving Anglo Italian Relations
I saw these two pull up on their scooter whilst I was walking through Rome, I had my camera ready and took this shot as soon as I saw this intimate moment. It’s the crash helmets that make it for me, one with the English emblem and the other with the Italian emblem.
The shot was on ISO 100 with a shutter speed of 1/320 and aperture f5.6. The 300mm lens on a Canon APS camera allowed me to get a bit paparazzi in capturing the moment without being noticed. The long focal length also helped with the subject isolation by dropping the background well out of focus so that attention is firmly on the two subjects.
Lewis Thanking the Fans, British Grand Prix, 2011
How lucky was I to be invited to both qualifying and race day for the British Grand Prix in July? On Saturday Michael Schumacher came to speak to us and to top that Lewis Hamilton came and spent time with us on Sunday, before the race.
It was a fantastic day and I took some pictures that I really enjoy. Here are a few I want to share.
Lewis and the Doughnut. At the end of the race and on the wind down lap, Lewis pulled off the circuit at Stowe corner and executed a doughnut for the fans. Smoke from the tyres was much appreciated by the fans who recognised this as Lewis thanking them for their support. I was on continuous shooting both leading up to and through this move so I picked this one out as representing the height of the action.
Michael Schumacher, British Grand Prix 2011
Michael Schumacher – seven times world champion. I was always a Damon Hill fan so my feelings towards Michael have had to mellow with time. Really appreciated the time he spent talking with us and he really is a very nice guy.
Lewis Hamilton Sharing a Laugh at the British Grand Prix, 2011
This one is Lewis Hamilton speaking to us before the race. He was so relaxed, cracking jokes and making us all feel like this was not “just another contractual Personal Appearance”. Really topped the day off nicely for me.
Water, water, everywhere….
When I took this image i wasn’t expecting too much from it. I took a number of pictures with different shutter speeds and looking to capture differing flows of the water. I framed the picture very deliberately to get the angles working with the differing water cascades.
Bournemouth Pier @ Night
A couple of night photography shots of Bournemouth Pier. The first is the Pier Theatre with the lights from the theatre reflected on the water. The longer exposure created a blurring effect for the reflections.
The second is taken on the pier and uses the covered part of the walk way that is lit up. The photo gives perspective as the walkway tapers off and the focus softens with distance.
Dolphin Swimming Free
I took this a few years back, we had to take a boat a few miles off the coast to find a family of Dolphins that were happy to play alongside the boat. The water was flat and I waited for this chap to break the surface of the water, but with the still surface his detail shows below the water line. The shutter speed really helped here with the water breaking off his back and fin just perfectly.
Location: a few miles off the coast of Vilamoura in Portugal.
Lilly about to Bloom
This is a Lilly about to open to full bloom. I liked the shape of the flower but needed something a bit different to make it an interesting picture. Hence the increased intensity in the post processing.
Another Lilly Picture
It is the time for these rather interesting flowers to bloom so why not take advantage of them. Yes, I have processed this one to add some extra interest to what is a naturally beautiful plant but it kind of works.
This was taken on a fairly long exposure in order to get a decent depth of field.
P-P-P-Pick Up a Penguin
Another up close and personal shot, this time of a penguin. I like the detail on this one, the focus is pin sharp where it counts and it highlights some great texture – particularly in the fur and the beak.
Closer and Close
This bloom is perhaps the size of your thumb. I’ve zoomed in to pick out some of the detail and dropped the background completely out of focus to concentrate on the subject. I’m certain I can find more perfect examples to photograph but it is perhaps the imperfections, as in life, that make the subject that little more interesting.
Lilly about to bloom
This is the first of the Lilies from this plant that is ready to flower, time for some time lapse photography perhaps!
I like the texture here and of course the colour, the depth of field is keeping interest in the main subject.
Lemurs in a Row
Ok, so yet another Lemur picture but this is the one they seem to like the most on Flickr so I thought I would share. No more Lemurs after this.
It’s not easy getting animals to all pose the same way, the same distance apart and at the right moment to turn to their left. But these guys were promised fame and fortune, and here it is….
Lemur Lemur Lemur Lemur Lemur!
You have to sing the title in your head to the tune of the Kaiser Chiefs famous hit, RUBY – I always do when I see the photo.
This has always been a favourite photograph of mine, I caught this chap against a brilliant blue sky and his eye in particular just stands out beautifully. Add in his well conditioned coat and a cool photograph is the end result – well I like to think so anyway.
JAWS
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the restaurant!
This picture was taken in a restaurant in Madrid, Espana. This rather large fish was on display in the window and was eye catching enough to make we want to capture the image. Quite striking.
Dolphin Fountain
Taken in the grounds of Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Rome, I also captured this on a slower shutter which blurred the water but I prefer this image which captures the droplets perfectly. It was a bit breezy on the day I took this and I think this helped with the overall picture. Hope you enjoy!
Little & Large, Two Italian Police Men on Duty
- These Two Policemen were on duty outside a Government Office in Roma. They were both aware that I was taking a photo and the taller of the two looked directly into the lens whilst the shorter officer looked straight ahead. I like the juxtaposition of their height and they both have character in their faces. I used depth of field to throw the background out of focus whilst ensuring I had both ‘models’ in focus.
